The planet Earth is connected to a series of worlds by gates controlled by beings known as the Sentinels. To activate the gates, they assured that a genetic code was added to certain families on each planet. Each planet also has an inhabitant that is both part Sentinel and part of the dominant species of the planet.

Deconstruction

The Sentinels handed Drew Montenegro the responsibility of saving the world from environmental destruction. The only problem is that they never told him how he is supposed to do this. All he knows is that in ten years there will be an Exodus of the planet Earth. He is the one to organize it. Drew needs gatekeepers to empty the Earth, planets to colonize, and the goodwill of everyone on Earth. If he does it right, his niece, who he swore to protect, will die. If he does it wrong, the human race on Earth will perish. It is an impossible job. To make matters worse, his mother has moved into his apartment to babysit his grandson, and his ex-girlfriend hates him because he turned his son into a raging monster.

At seventeen, Darcy Darwin Alexander (who still hates his name) is ready to save the world. To be precise, he needs to change the Earth’s future to save his best friend. He will do everything to make sure it happens even if it means that everyone in his family, including his best friend, Scout, will hate him.

Sitting in the frozen tundra in a history pod, Scout Ferrington realizes that she hates hunting and cold weather. Instead, she discovers her love for healing and medicine. When she returns to her family, she knows that her future must include becoming a doctor. The only problem is that every written future predicts her premature death. If she stays on Earth to study, she will probably never finish her training. If she leaves, Scout will be without her family and friends for years.

Samuel Mueller is learning. He is learning to be part of a loving family. Eddie and Nathan are his new foster parents. Carunzo is from another planet and has decided that his life’s mission is to protect Sam. He is also learning how to be an alien, specifically a Sentinel. As a result of an injury that killed him, he is now half human and half Sentinel. The Sentinels are considered the most advanced species in the universe. Truthfully, Sam just wants to return to his life as a thief, or if that fails, he is willing to give normal a try.
